On what I learned this year {25}

On what I learned this year {25}

I usually hate these types of lists, but the more I thought about the past year, the more I realized how much I have grown. I moved to Manhattan, fell in love with the city (which I didn't think would happen), moved back to CT (and learned that's not what I want), and continually stepped outside of my comfort zone. Overall, I learned a lot about myself.

Solange Knowles recently contributed a "letter to her teen self" in Teen Vogue (highly recommend the read). At 25 a lot of the takeaways still apply. Here's my favorite part:

there will be pain, there will be doubt, there will be beauty, there will be the unknown. there will be so many moments of joy and delight that the whole universe will feel painted in hues of amber and wonder. there will be times you are so sad you can’t lift your head. and there will be times you are so happy that the sensation of life knocks you down. but most importantly, there will be you. a whole, whole lot of it. and you will feel good about who she is and who she is still becoming.

So reflecting on the past year, I thought I'd add my own list:

- Love yourself first. Period.

- Listen to mom more....and your gut too. Stop second guessing yourself.

- Do the scary thing. Step out of your comfort zone. Start the blog, try the spin class, move to the new city, just do it.

- Embrace the long road. Let time be time. Everything will work out.

- Be batshit grateful. And say thank you more (out loud and written).

- Balance. Breathe. Stop putting pressure on yourself.

- You are not invincible. Ask for help. However, remember your own strength.

- You are fiercely independent. Embrace it. Be proud of it. It will scare away many, but it's ok.

A big (actually huge) thank you to my family and friends for an amazing year--here's to the next one!
